Winter steam basket- super easy, yummy and reasonably healthy all in about 15 minutes. There is a nice balance between the stodgy savouryness of the buns and the crispy freshness of the vegies. The buns take 15 minutes to steam so put them in the steamer first, then chop up your vegies. I used pumpkin, mushrooms, cauliflower, broccoli and silverbeet tonight, pop them in the steamer for the last couple of minutes. Tonight I served with soy sauce, spring onions and some left over Thai pesto, you could also use mirin or sweet chilli sauce and lime juice.
I buy the steam buns from Vincent Vegetarian in Footscray www.vincentvegetarianfood.com they’ve got lots of different types, including wholemeal ones, plus I usually leave with other vegan randomness like a soy lobster or ‘marriage bars’ choc coated ice creams.
