We flow with the breath every week in Pilates for Yogis and Vinyasa Playlist at Dance of Life, but this week it will be a special focus, taking us deeper into the postures and ourselves. Rane has put together a dark and introspective mix, with patches of light, featuring Shutdown by Sukh Knight, for Vinyasa Playlist.
I’ll also be using the breath to work to tap into the power of our core, getting more out of familiar movements in Pilates for Yogis, then to guiding us into deep relaxation at the end of the class.
I leave you with this beautiful quote, celebrating Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, the river which all dynamic flowing styles of yoga draw from…
“Sri K Pattabhi Jois offered another kind of mala, which is ancient in tradition, as sacred as a prayer, and as beautiful as flowers. His mala is a garland of yoga, in which each vinyasa – the coordination of breath and movement – is like a sacred bead to be counted and focused on, and each asana is like a fragrant flower strung on the thread of the breath. Just as a japamala adorns the neck and a pushpamala adorns the gods, so too does this garland of yoga, when diligently practised, adorn our entire being with peace, health, radiance, and, ultimately, self-knowledge.”
